Why I Don't Like the NDE Experience God
I’ve been doing my own personal research on NDE experiences for quite a while now. And although I never actually had one myself I feel compelled from my inner spirit at this moment to comment on the God that most NDE survivors have an encounter with. I also want to most importantly note that this is my own analysis and personal opinion of the God that these survivors describe in their own NDE experience articles. I will break up my post into two parts; the analysis and then my opinion.
Analysis
This God is described in summary by many of these survivors as unconditionally loving beyond all human perception insofar that he’s basically unfathomable for any human being. Even so, I will still try to form my own opinion about this God in the next part.
I find it interesting that this God is described as being unconcerned with religion as a whole and takes no side whatsoever with what many people might believe is the true religion.
He is also said to not pass judgment on others which, to me, contradicts the very notion of Christianity where their God judges those based on the sins they’ve committed after death. Basically, this NDE experience God doesn’t hold anyone to account for their sins which is very interesting.
I’ve come to understand that this God exists outside the finite parameters of the universe and it would be impossible for science to directly detect Him. Only in the spirit form do you have a chance of seeing or reaching Him.
This God doesn’t appear to have any connection to human morality which bothers me and I will describe why later.
He is considered infinitely intelligent or omniscient and holds all answers to every inquiry.
According to my understanding of what a lot of these NDE survivors write is that this God makes it quite clear that it’s incumbent for every human being on the earth to do a specific task which they predetermined to set out to do here.
The constant reaffirmation of NDE survivors that talk about the concept of love being this God’s main element is, to me, something that I have trouble grasping myself which I will also go into more detail about later.
It seems quite clear to me that this God will manifest himself a certain way based on what spiritual or religious beliefs you lived by in your life; so if you were a muslim you might see the Prophet Muhammad, a christian might see Jesus or a hindu might see Lord Krishna. Atheists tend to have a more metaphysical experience but not always.
Many individuals report that there is a sense of oneness with everything and everybody is connected to each other and this God.
These survivors describe their miraculous recoveries through this deity’s healing powers.
Some NDE survivors report that prayers to Him are impactful and have a positive effect in some part of their lives although the effects may not be felt for some time. The effects of prayer may also have a direct or indirect effect on the individual.
Opinion
First off, It is quite extraordinary that we can even get a possible glimpse of who our true maker really is. To me, this deity appears to be both deistic and theistic in nature. Deistic in the sense of not favoring any particular religion and can feel quite absent from the physical universe. And theistic insofar as being interactive with those NDE survivors by healing them and possibly hearing prayers and answering them in due course.
I do believe Christianity has quite the dilemma on its hands if the real God does not acknowledge the concept of sin because this completely challenges the main doctrine of Christianity. This would patently mean that Christianity is false to a large extent. Even so, I believe religion as a whole creates purpose in a lot of people's lives and forms a strong moral foundation. So, in a moral sense it is just and correct for anyone to believe in any religion.
However, I would be heartstricken if God doesn’t have any sense of humanity’s perception of morality on the grand scale. Moral code is what makes us civil, respectful and decent human beings and is what keeps humanity from falling apart quickly. If there are no morals then there is no justice. How can we then say that God is moral himself if he can be equally accepting of good and bad? Of course, He goes way beyond human understanding but still, it’s like God could equally favor a devout Christian and Stalin himself. That’s a scary thought to me.
This brings me to my next point. I understand that this God is said to be unconditionally loving. But I wonder how God could be equally loving of the worst of the worst and someone who lived their life as a decent person? It’s inconceivable to me. I hope when I die I won’t see Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin and Mao Zedong in heaven next to a bunch of heavenly beings as I wouldn’t feel right staying there. I would prefer to sit in that pure black void of nothingness a lot of NDE survivors describe in that case.
Because He makes it quite clear that everyone comes to earth to fulfill some purpose, this leads me to believe you don’t have much free will. I have personally been inclined to lean towards destiny over free will in life and this is a case against free will for the most part. How can one say they have free will if you are ultimately destined to do a certain thing in this life no matter how much leeway you think you have? Though, if there is free will then it’s a limited amount.
My biggest problem I have with the NDE experience God is this aspect of ‘oneness.’ It’s described that when you’re in His presence then you get a feeling of being connected to everyone and or everything. As a human being I can only speak for my experience with other fellow human beings and I can tell you I definitely cannot relate to that oneness described by NDE survivors while here on the earth. Many, many people you meet in this physical life are very different from one another. Many people you will meet have different beliefs, opinions, hobbies, attractions etc.
Then there are those people who are not really nice to be around. They may be narcissistic, cold, callous, pretentious and many more things along those lines. How can we say that we all are one, especially here on the earth? I can’t. And in my opinion I would find it quite uncanny to know that a person who lived a pessimistic and hate filled life was spontaneously transformed into a loving person simply because he/she is now in this euphoric afterlife. Doesn’t that sound like cheating yourself out of your original personality that you displayed on the earth?
And so why should such a person be given the same pleasing treatment as someone who actually strived to be a moral and sincere individual? This is my problem with oneness. I can’t accept it, personally. I am aware I will not be able to understand the issues I have with Him until I kick the bucket myself. Then maybe it will be clarified for me.
But this is all just my personal opinion on the years of independent research I’ve done on NDE experiences. I find them fascinating and thought provoking. It has made me realize that no religious, atheistic or philosophical position is correct on the nature and existence of God. How can they be anyway? Human perception is finite and the mind of God is infinite. Just as finite numbers are incapable of equaling infinity, the finite abilities of human understanding cannot reach the understanding of the infinite mind of God.
